My only reservation with that is that SW20s try to kill you, apparently.

As a daily I’d prefer the last one, don’t remember the number.
Damnit now I have to check craigslist when I get out of class.

Hard no on the 325i. G35 is likely a few steps away from death.

Pretty much. With the 2.2L N/A it’ll be fun, but certainly not dangerous. Keep good tires on the rear and you’ll have years of fun.
Bonus, most parts on the 2.2 are parts-binned from the Camry, so you shouldn’t have too much maintenance cost problems.
Turbo engine swap later on for extra excitement.

Thanks :)
I haven’t had the pleasure yet to drive an MR2, but I always liked them. How s it to work on these? Do they have common problems?
And now I’m shocked my toolbox isn’t decorated

Don’t think so. Probably just maintenance and such.

Reliability wise they’re the same as any same-era Toyota, and if you start modding them, it goes by Fast-Reliable-Cheap pick two. Most sworn-at part of the car is probably on the Turbos, and it’s the coolant bypass hoses fitted to the oil cooler, and the hoses are known as the Hose from Hell and the Hose from Hell on Earth. The midengine layout has the same room around the engine bay as the camry (5S-FE) and Celica GT4 (3S-GTE) have, it’s just located in the back instead of the front.
T-tops leak when old, but you can still buy new seals straight from Toyota (expensive, though). Hardtops are rare and sought after. Factory tires are staggered (‘91-’92 195 front, 205 rear, ‘93-’95 195 front 225 rear) and stagger needs to be kept or increased as needed, otherwise it does get very twitchy. Mine’s at 215 front, 255 rear and I can still lay down rubber with the 4th gen 3S-GTE from the Japanese ST215 Caldina with bolt-on mods.

There was also a suspension change somewhere in the life cycle of the SW20/21, which allegedly helped. Don’t drive it at its limits on public roads and you should be fine.
As Slant 6 mentioned, the ZZW30 is a good alternative if you want a more docile introduction to MR handling, but you lose a lot of practicality.

The two BMWs I owned haven’t been bad at all.

I would hope not because an E90 M3 and an E39 M5 are two big dream cars for me
